Remnant is one of my favorite words in the bible!

Once upon a time, 24 years ago, a single mom with two boys, 10 and 13 years old, walked into a church for the very first time. And because a remnant of God’s people prayed, served, and was obedient to His word, this woman’s life and her sons’ lives were changed forever.

Who would have thought just a few people could pack a powerful, eternal punch?

The dictionary says that a remnant is “a noun – A small quantity of something.”

This story is about a small handful of people, on a mission, for God, trusting and believing God as His word.

How awesome!

How simple!

How freeing!

God is the army. God does the “heavy lifting” of changing hearts.

We get to simply do our part!

But consider a remnant as a line of people, volunteers, where connections were made, unknowingly between one another, yet clearly orchestrated by the hand of God.

24 years ago, the line went like this:

I bought my house after the divorce from the couple who decided “We wanted you to have this house” Even though I arrived late to their open house and they already received 3 offers. As a single mom with 2 boys,  I could not compete with the offers.  I later learned they had been praying for the “right one” to have their home.

The small group, ages ranging from 24 – 65, of Frank, Landis, Phillip, Sheri, Tom, Johnny, and Lou welcomed me into their circle of “we are all single and hang out together.”  Ski trips, beach trips, baked potato nights, and movies, that God used to soften my broken heart.

Invited and included in Jeff and Becky’s family, my new neighbors. Jeff coming to my house to repair all my mistakes; like the time I kicked in a locked bathroom door; the door opened…so did the door jam. (Invite me to coffee and I’ll tell you the whole story!)

Phyllis led my first bible study with only other single mom and her boys in the church, while Jean brought a home-cooked meal for the seven of us every Tuesday night.

Shep walked me to my seat the first time I attended a Sunday, without my boys. I was walking out because it was too crowded, dark, and overwhelming to find a seat.

Those unnamed to me, who prayed, smiled, and opened their hearts and their homes to us.

Recently, once again, I got to witness how the faithful remnant of God can impact lives.

Three volunteers on a mission.

  1. I heard how Bob invited a new family, a single mom with two boys, to church.

  2. Blake, unknowingly, walked up to her son to connect with him.

  3. Jennifer gave the Mom a tour to comfort her that this is a safe place – and the volunteers everywhere!

You may be “unseen” unnamed, not famous, or part of a small number on a team.

God loves His remnants and He does mighty work with the few faithful.

When He does, stand back and get ready to be amazed!!!!

Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have,

for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.
